Einar Gustafsson ,Photographer(1907-1992)

Einar Gustafsson s photo of the harbor of Västerås a summer day in the early twenties
has, like so many of his images a peaceful, solemn character, which makes his early work unusual and challenging.I have often considered whether it would be possible to write a story based on these pictures, made on a box camera by a very young man.

For essay and more pictures, organised by Benjamin Gustafsson, contemporary New York based photographer, see:

Einar Gustafsson ,Photographer(1907-1992)

In the year 1923, Einar Gustafsson produced a number of remarkable pictures with his very primitive camera, a Kodak No. 2A Brownie Model B and it is known that the brand was produced 1911-1924 in Canada by Canadian Kodak. In Sweden the type was sold through Hasselblads Fotografiska AB in Stockholm. The objective has a fixed focus,3 apertures and used 116-rollfilm.A few of the paper copies preserved are noted with the year 1923.

In cooperation with Einar Gustafssons grandson,Benjamin Gustafsson, distinguished photographer in New York and leader of Benjamin Gustafsson Photography , I have prepared a net gallery from the old paper album. It is,together with my introductory esssay, found on
